Summary : Reporting directly to Principal Supervisor - designs, develops, and serves as Instructor in specialized technical training programs consistent with appropriate instructional system design methodology resulting in the successful promotion of Trainees and/or training of employees.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Present and deliver technical skills/mentoring training programs.
  • Identify and analyze training needs regarding specific knowledge and/or skills deficiency for a given population to determine and develop level of performance required to ensure Trainee success.
  • Partner with new Instructors and serve as mentor to deliver training classes, including scheduling, session preparation, and communication to all stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the RTDs Instructional Design & Development Team (IDD) to analyze, continuously update, and improve training syllabi and materials to advance strategic learning priorities.
  • Evaluate training programs and analyze performance data to determine the level of performance improvement needed/required by Trainees to achieve successful results. Includes providing Trainees with additional training/tutoring as needed.
  • Evaluate and review training programs developed by equipment manufacturers and other outside training consultants to develop new and/or improve existing course materials.
  • Partner with CFR Compliance Specialist to maintain compliance with FRA requirements.
  • Maintain detailed records of classes conducted, coordinating curriculum updates and changes.
  • Design and develop and/or evaluate, technical skill training programs in partnership with department stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned/directed.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Associates Degree in Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Vocational Education, or related area from a US Department of Education accredited college or university.
  • Plus, three (3) years of experience in rail training, rail management or rail program facilitation.
  • Plus, two (2) year of experience in the installation, maintenance, and inspection of electrical systems on passenger railroad equipment.
  • Plus, one (1) year of experience in the installation, maintenance, and inspection of onboard Positive Train Control systems (ASES II and/or ACSES II preferable).
  • Maximum of two (2) years of directly related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the design, development, presentation, and evaluation of technical skills and/or management development training programs desired.

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • Proven ability to effectively supervise, coach, motivate, and mentor employees.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, effective communication skills both verbally and in writing, and the ability to develop effective business partnerships with various stakeholders.
  • Extensive knowledge of Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations 218, 229, 236, 238 and 243 required.
  • Ability to demonstrate subject matter expertise in technical knowledge required based on assignment.
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal skills required.
  • Skill/ability to instruct in both a classroom and remote (distance learning) environment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Tools (i.e. Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint).

Preferred:

  • Ability to consistently recognize opportunities for improvement and development and ability to execute on new ideas to improve training programs desired.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid Drivers License, Environmental Protection Agency Certificate (HVAC), Positive Train Control (PTC) Qualified.

Working Environment

  • In person/Office/Remote/Field

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work on computer both remotely and office environment.
  • Ability to stand during in-person training sessions as needed to evaluate Trainees.
  • Ability to climb onto all types of equipment to evaluate Trainees during field work exercises.
  • Ability to work in the field on or about railroad tracks and right of way.
  • Ability to walk track distance (approx. 1 mile) as needed during field training with Trainees.
