Mason Jobs in New York

A Mason, commonly referred to as a Bricklayer, is a crucial professional in the construction industry. They specialize in building and repairing structures made of brick, concrete, and similar materials. Masons cut and shape masonry materials and arrange them in mortar according to design specifications. They also mix mortar and grout, construct corners by fastening corner poles, and finish mortar joints with jointing tools for a sealed, neat appearance. Their work serves a critical role in the construction of residential and commercial buildings, walls, walkways, and other structures.

In terms of skills and certifications, Masons must have a good physical condition, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to comprehend construction plans. They should have an understanding of mathematics for calculations, measurements, and layout work. As for certifications, a high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Formal masonry training, either through a vocational school program or apprenticeship, is usually preferred. Before becoming Masons, individuals may work as Masonry Helpers, Construction Laborers, or Apprentices under the supervision of experienced Masons to gain necessary skills and experience.
