Acoustical Carpenter Jobs in Wilmington, NC
An Acoustical Carpenter specializes in working with materials and techniques used to control sound and vibrations in a variety of construction projects. This professional installs acoustical ceilings and wall systems, tiles, and insulation materials. They also construct frameworks and hang drywall to create rooms, walls, and other interior structures. In addition to these, they install sound barriers and absorbers that contribute to the quality of sound within a space, useful in settings such as theaters, music studios and office buildings. Their work involves reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications to know where to place acoustical materials.
An Acoustical Carpenter should possess excellent manual dexterity, physical strength, and practical skills. They should have solid knowledge of carpentry tools and equipment, and have a good understanding of building codes and regulations. They should also have good math skills for measuring and calculating dimensions. A valid driver's license is often required and some employers may require specific certifications like the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certification. Before becoming an Acoustical Carpenter, a person might hold roles such as a Carpenter's Helper or Apprentice Carpenter, gradually gaining hands-on experience and specialized skills in acoustical carpentry.
