Top Construction Companies to Work For in 2015
Top Construction Companies to Work For
Compiled by Great Place to Work and co-authored by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz, the 2014 FORTUNE’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list includes 6 construction and real estate companies. 257 firms participated in last year’s survey, with two-thirds of their score based on an employee-completed Trust Index survey and one-third based on a detailed Culture Audit. If you’re seeking a rewarding construction job with a personnel-focused organization, consider starting with this list of companies who have proven to be leaders in creating and sustaining great workplaces.
DPR Construction rose 5 spots from last year and has ranked among the top 100 for 5 years. An employee-owned organization, DPR is dedicated to finding and continuously developing top talent and offers unique perks such as a phantom stock program and company-owned condos available for personal vacations. To further encourage a staff-led environment and discourage formal leadership structures, DPR has an open-office floor plan and title-less business cards.
Camden Property Trust is a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) and one of the largest publicly traded, multifamily companies in the US. They are also the only multifamily company ever to be included in FORTUNE’s list. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, team members may also reside in Camden apartments with a 20% discount on rent and book vacation suites throughout the nation for $20/night.
With a purpose of “Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives,” David Weekley Homes strives to be equally committed to its staff and its customers and has appeared on FORTUNE’s list 8 times. Standout employee offerings include generous 401(k) matching, a Weekley Wellness Program, and outreach partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, National MS Society, and more. David Weekley Homes also provides four-year college scholarships of up to $2K per year per child.
#59 – PCL Construction Enterprises
PCL Construction Enterprises jumped from #73 to #59 on the list and focuses on maintaining personnel satisfaction through flexibility, rewards, challenges, and career development. PCL has its own College of Construction and multiple corporate- or construction-based Career Paths. PCL supports the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and the Red Cross, and staff may also earn $200 “pay it forward” checks for the charity of their choice by volunteering 18 hours or more per year.
For the 17th consecutive year, TDIndustries has been recognized by Great Place to Work and FORTUNE. TDIndustries is 100% employee owned, practices servant leadership as a management philosophy, refers to its team members as TDPartners, and offers the TDCares financial resource program for workers during times of significant or immediate need. They are also an American Heart Association Gold Fit-Friendly company.
Making its first appearance on the list, Kiewit Corporation prides itself on providing challenging and personally rewarding careers. They are also #3 on ENR’s List of Top 400 Contractors for 2014. 100% employee owned, Kiewit claims to offer one of the best benefits packages among Fortune 500 companies including industry-leading paid time off and relocation assistance. Kiewit University comprises management/business, technical, and leadership programs, training events, a fully equipped library, and an online portal.
