The Union County Engineer is now hiring a Mechanic 2 to join our Operations Department team! Under direction, this position helps direct equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair functions; inspects and oversees work in progress; performs facility maintenance functions; performs a variety of vehicle and equipment diagnostic, repair and maintenance duties; performs other related duties as required.

Completion of secondary education or equivalent; five (5) years experience as a skilled mechanic working with a variety of vehicles and construction equipment, including experience with small tools and heavy equipment; experienced diagnostic skills; experience with vehicle and equipment electronical systems, hydraulics, and gasoline and diesel engines; ability to receive any necessary specialized vendor/manufacturers training for fleet inventory or acquire related certifications; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Class A CDL license preferred.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio drivers license and maintain insurability under the Countys vehicle insurance policy.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
Loader, various fleet trucks, welders, mechanical hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment. Union County to provide basic mechanics tools.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in the vicinity of floor or wall openings, elevated platforms, and/or runways; ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds; works in an area in which the means of egress is or can be obstructed; works on and around powered platforms and/or vehicle mounted platforms (e.g., manlifts, fire trucks); is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases and/or poorly ventilated work areas; is exposed to possible injury form extremely noisy conditions above 85 db; is exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, or air contaminants; is exposed to possible injury from hazardous waste; in exposed to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions; is exposed to possible injury as a result of electrical shock; is exposed to possible injury as a result of working with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines; is exposed to possible injury from has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions; has exposure to extreme non-weather related heat or cold; has exposure to hazardous driving conditions; works second shift, third shift and irregular hours; works rotating shift.

Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered heavy work. For purposes of 42 USC 12101:

(1) Performs equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair functions; performs initial inspections of equipment and vehicles and diagnosis malfunctions; inspects and oversees work in progress; inspects, analyzes, overhauls, repairs and maintains automotive and diesel/gasoline construction equipment and vehicles, (e.g., trucks, tractors, graders, rollers, backhoes, etc.); inspects, adjusts, repairs and replaces vehicle units and parts, (e.g., brakes, clutches, transmissions, hydraulic lines and cylinders, differentials, axles, gears, etc.); performs a variety of vehicle maintenance duties, (e.g., changes oil and filters, lubricates, checks systems, replaces worn parts, etc.).

(2) Operate standard testing equipment to perform engine tune-ups; road tests repaired equipment and vehicles for proper operation; uses electric and acetylene welding and braising equipment to repair and/or fabricate equipment and parts; repairs bodywork on equipment and vehicles; paints equipment and vehicles.

(3) Solicits and secures quotations for parts; conducts periodic inventory; maintains stockroom according to established procedures; maintains constant communication with supervisor regarding availability of needed parts; maintains current stock catalogs and manuals; maintains repair and maintenance records.

(4) Performs facility maintenance functions; procures services, equipment and supplies; performs periodic inspections of facilities and oversees preventative maintenance and repairs; reviews/prepares, routine cleaning and maintenance of facility and equipment.

(5) Establishes and implements record and document maintenance systems and procedures; maintains garage records according to established procedures; prepares, indexes and files assigned records and documents; maintains records of work completed.

(6) Maintains required licensures and certification; attends professional educational and training sessions, seminars and workshops.

(7) Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

(8) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Skill in: Heavy equipment and fleet vehicle maintenance and repair.

Ability to: Maintain records according to established procedures; recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action; arrange items in numerical or alphabetical order; interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals and manuals; perform heavy manual labor; apply principles to solve practical, everyday problems; prepare accurate documentation; deal with many variables and determine specific action; answer routine telephone inquiries.
