We are looking for an early-career Mechanical Engineer to join our Tallgrass Project Engineering team. This role offers hands-on exposure to pipeline systems, pump and compressor stations, terminals, and mechanical facilities supporting Major projects. Candidates with 0 to 5 years of experience will thrive in this position by contributing to a wide variety of projects from concept through execution.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Support the design, specification, and analysis of mechanical systems, including pipelines, pumps, valves, pressure vessels, and rotating equipment
- Assist in project execution, from feasibility and front-end engineering to construction support and commissioning
- Perform calculations, material selection, and mechanical integrity assessments
- Work closely with project managers, field personnel, and vendors to ensure technical accuracy and safety compliance
- Participate in inspections, failure analysis, and reliability improvements of mechanical systems
- Prepare engineering deliverables such as datasheets, reports, and drawing reviews
- Ensure designs meet industry standards (ASME, API, DOT, etc.) and internal specifications
- Follows prescribed procedures and conducts analyses to develop design options or recommendations.
- Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
Minimum requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution in Engineering or a related field.
- 0 to 5 years of mechanical engineering experience (internships or co-ops in oil & gas are a plus)
- Familiarity with mechanical equipment used in pipeline or terminal operations
- Working knowledge of CAD and engineering analysis tools
- Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and a proactive mindset
- Ability to work in both office and field environments as needed
Experience/Specific Knowledge(not required):
- Exposure to midstream project work or operations support
- Experience with pump or compressor station design
- Familiarity with DOT 49 CFR Part 195/192, API 610, 650, ASME B31.3/B31.4
- Root cause analysis or mechanical integrity experience
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
Competencies, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic Engineering principles
- Works under direct supervision but displays initiative and moves toward requiring less supervision.
- Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
- Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
- Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
- Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate. (as applicable to job)
Compensation:
- The annual salary range for this position will be $88,000 - $106,000/yr.
