We are currently seeking a Project Lead / Mechanical Engineer to support a high-profile client in the automotive sector, focusing on final assembly systems. This is a contract position based in Blythewood, SC with a hybrid/on-site schedule depending on the phase of the project. PURPOSE: The Project Lead / Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of final assembly systems for a major automotive project, aligning closely with Group standards. This position is responsible for leading mechanical engineering efforts, ensuring efficient integration of automation and conveyor technologies, and driving cross-functional collaboration to meet project milestones and quality expectations. This role requires both technical expertise and strong leadership in a dynamic, high-impact environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the planning, design, and implementation of final assembly systems with a focus on automation and conveyor technologies (EMS, floor conveyors). Apply VASS standards and best practices in plant engineering throughout the project lifecycle. Manage project timelines, schedules, and milestones; track progress using appropriate tools (MS Project, Jira, etc.). Coordinate with suppliers, ensuring technical alignment and timely delivery of equipment and services. Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration between engineering, logistics, production, and other key stakeholders. Maintain clear and comprehensive project documentation, including engineering specifications and meeting minutes. Monitor installation and commissioning phases, providing on-site support when needed. Identify and mitigate risks proactively, ensuring issues are escalated and resolved effectively. QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive experience in final assembly planning, preferably in the automotive industry and within the Group ecosystem. In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, automation, and conveyor technologies including EMS and floor conveyor systems. Strong familiarity with VASS standards and automotive plant engineering processes. Proven project management capabilities with experience leading complex, cross-functional projects. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage stakeholders at all levels. Proficiency in MS Office, Jira, Confluence, and MS Teams. Language proficiency: Fluent English required; German language skills are a strong plus. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to, sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
