POSITION PROFILE
The Controls Engineer position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties with minimal supervision from safely creating/modifying PLC programs to assisting with production equipment troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining in order to support the achievement of the MillerKnoll's business goals and objectives. This position is under the direction of the Maintenance Manager.
DAILY DUTIES
Collaborates with site production, maintenance, and engineering teams and/or OEM technical support in order to assist with troubleshooting and projects
Upgrades/configures PLC software/hardware including related electrical/control modifications; Allen Bradley and Siemens preferred
Develops/Modifies PLC programs on equipment used for manufacturing processes which includes the creation/modification of electrical and/or ladder logic drawings
Participates in equipment commissioning and start-up activities including the confirmation of safety system functionality, loop verification, and debugging
Works with plant equipment such as, but not limited to, hydraulic/pneumatic equipment (cylinders, valves, controls, & sensors), conveyor systems, part fixtures, servo drives/motors, electrical motors, safety sensors, motion controls, and sewing/textile equipment
Ensures compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, and MillerKnoll standards
Utilizes proper lockout/tagout, arc flash, confined space, and hot work permit procedures to maintain a safe environment while following EHS/regulatory procedures
Performs all their duties in an open and objective manner, utilizing a best practice mindset to drive continuous improvement in all job-related functions
Follows and promotes GMPs and other quality programs related to the manufacturing processes
Required to work other assigned shifts as to meet business needs
Performs other duties as required
Required Skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Able to read, understand, and utilize mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical drawings/schematics
Possesses interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships within the team, the organization, and vendors
Has excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate with all levels within the organization and outside of the organization
Understands and utilizes Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project
Possesses a high level of urgency and can work with minimal supervision in a fast paced and demanding manufacturing environment
Possesses self-motivation with the ability to manage multiple high priority deliverables in parallel while also attending to reactive production, maintenance, and/or engineering requests
Has experience with high and low voltage power distribution systems such as variable frequency drives, servo motors, motor starters, solenoids, heater controls, and other typical control components
Possesses the ability to program in Rockwell and Siemens software, in particularly Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, and RSLogix 500/5000
Possesses the ability to program with structured text and ladder logic
Proficient with LOTO & Arc Flash requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proficient in using 2d CAD software; AutoCAD a plus
Has used tools and shop equipment such as, but not limited to, general hand tools, drill press, lathe, mill, bandsaw, and presses
Has conveyor system experience
Familiar with CMMS for project/work order tracking (Maximo a plus)
Required Experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possesses a certificate or degree in a controls/electrical related discipline
Has 5-10 years of automated manufacturing experience with developing PLC programs for manufacturing processes or similar applications with the ability to work in a team setting or alone
Has 5+ years of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, automation, and robotics experience
Has prior troubleshooting and control/electrical Preventative Maintenance experience
Has knowledge of field bus protocols such as Ethernet I/P, Profibus, Modbus, or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Possesses a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or an engineering related discipline with 5 years of automated manufacturing experience
Understands Continuous Improvements and lean methodology and implements/utilizes lean philosophies/techniques
Has used Root Cause analysis methodology
Has an understanding of CODESYS
