Job Description
Construction company in New Haven County seeks a skilled and detail-oriented Architectural Millshop Finisher to join its team. The Finisher will be responsible for applying high-quality finishes to custom architectural millwork, cabinetry, and wood products. This position requires expertise in surface preparation, staining, sealing, painting, and clear coating to meet design specifications and ensure a flawless final product.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation:
- Sand, fill, and prepare wood surfaces for finishing.
- Inspect materials for defects and correct imperfections before finishing.
- Mask or tape surfaces as needed to protect areas from unwanted coating.
- Finishing Application:
- Apply stains, sealers, paints, and clear coats using spray guns, brushes, or other techniques.
- Mix and match stains, paints, and finishes to achieve desired colors and effects.
- Ensure consistent application of finishes, avoiding streaks, bubbles, or other imperfections.
- Quality Control:
- Perform quality checks on finished pieces to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Repair or refinish defective parts as necessary.
- Maintain a clean and dust-free work environment to prevent contamination.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Clean and maintain spray equipment, booths, and finishing tools.
- Calibrate and troubleshoot equipment as required.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Comply with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a finisher in a millshop or woodworking environment.
- Proficiency in various finishing techniques and equipment (e.g., HVLP spray guns).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to match colors and finishes accurately.
- Knowledge of wood types, grain patterns, and finishing materials.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and specifications.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, and lift heavy materials as needed.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with custom architectural millwork and cabinetry.
- Familiarity with water-based and solvent-based finishes.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Work Environment:
- Workshop setting with exposure to dust, noise, and finishing chemicals.
- Use of protective equipment such as respirators and gloves may be required.
